ICAR-CMFRI plants over 1,400 mangroves for Mother Earth
The Plant4Mother mission by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) has put more than 1,400 mangrove saplings and propagules into the ground across coastal Kerala—a massive green contribution towards strengthening fragile coastal ecosystems.
As an active participant in the Plant4Mother – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, ICAR-CMFRI carried out a series of mangrove restoration, tree plantation and nursery development activities across Njarakkal, Manjanakkad, Kadamakkudy, Edavanakkad and other locations. 250-seedling mangrove nursery established at Santa Cruz HS, Ochanthuruthu. Fruit-bearing trees including mango, jack, guava, coconut, carambola, ber and mangosteen planted. As part of the initiative, Kochi Corporation Mayor Adv. V.K. Minimol planted a sapling at ICAR-CMFRI on the occasion of the ICAR Foundation Day ceremony held on 16 July, 2026
ICAR CMFRI was assisted by SITA (Travel Corporation of India Ltd), Plan@Earth, Aluva, Hatha Abdulla Science Foundation, Edavanakkadu and Sri. Murukeshan, Malippuram in this endeavour.
Plantation drives were carried out with institutional, community and partner support.
The campaign’s latest activity saw a Mangosteen sapling planted at the ICAR-CMFRI premises on 12 August 2026, jointly by Dr. Grinson George, Director, ICAR-CMFRI, and Smt. Shirly Kuriakose, Principal Private Secretary, ICAR-CMFRI.
