Report on Hindi workshop at ICAR CMFRI Karwar Regional Station
To promote the use of Hindi in day-to-day official communication and to enhance language skills among the staff of ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Karwar Regional Station, a one-day workshop on the topic “Implementation of Official Language and Importance of Hindi Proficiency Examinations” was organized by the Official Language Implementation Committee on 04-08-2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM through hybrid mode, wherein participants attended both online and offline.
Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Director (Official Language) and Editor of “Sagarbodh”, CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Panjim, Goa, was present as the key resource person. The workshop was chaired by Dr. Kalidas C, Principal Scientist and Scientist In-Charge. On this occasion, Dr. Praveen Dube, Technical Officer and Hindi Officer, welcomed the chief guest and introduced him to the staff. Scientists, technical staff, multi-tasking staff, and administrative staff of the Karwar Regional Station actively participated in the workshop.
The key speaker, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, provided detailed information about the Hindi teaching schemes available for employees. He elaborated on various Hindi examinations such as Praveen, Pragya, and Parangat, and encouraged the staff to enroll in these examinations. He also highlighted the inspections carried out by Parliamentary Committees and the aspects they review regarding the implementation of the Official Language under the initiatives taken by the Government. Further, he emphasized the importance of working knowledge and proficiency in Hindi and stressed the increased use of Hindi in official work.
Dr. Sharma also explained the use of online learning tools for Hindi, particularly the ‘LEELA’ software, through which employees can attend classes related to Hindi examinations. Towards the end of the workshop, he demonstrated effective methods of typing in Hindi on computers using a phonetic keyboard. During the workshop, staff members actively interacted with the resource person and clarified their doubts. Finally, Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu delivered the vote of thanks, and the workshop concluded successfully.
