Training Programme on "Basics of fish ageing using hard parts for stock assessment"

Title of the programme: "Basics of fish ageing using hard parts for stock assessment"

Venue: C M F R I; Kochi

Duration and date: 5 days; 02 - 06 February 2016

Age and growth of fishes were conventionally estimated from length composition of species in the catch following modal progression analysis. However, age/growth estimates of the same species by different researchers vary widely, often casting doubts on the accuracy of these estimates. Since, precise information on age of fish being an important pre-requisite for stock assessment, globally attempts were made to assess the age of fishes from the micro-structural inscriptions on hard parts.

The programme is aimed at skill development on fish ageing using hard parts and utilization of age and growth data in stock assessment. This programme consists of lectures and practical demonstrations/hands-on exercises.

Target group: Scientists & Technical staff of ICAR Institutes doing research in capture fisheries with practical knowledge in stock assessment.

Intake capacity: 10

Deadline to receive the applications: Interested candidates may send detailed bio-data, recommended/ forwarded by the controlling officer to “” by email latest by 31st December 2015.
Shortlisted candidates will be intimated through email by 10th January 2016

Note: All expenditure should be borne by the sponsoring Institute
