ICAR Foundation Day 2026 Celebration at ICAR-CMFRI, Karwar Regional Station

The 98th Foundation Day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Karwar Regional Station of ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI), Karwar, on 16 July 2026 (Thursday) at 10:00 AM. The programme was organized in accordance with the guidelines issued by ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi, with the objective of creating awareness among students about the achievements and contributions of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and ICAR-CMFRI in the field of fisheries and marine sciences.

The event was attended by 20 students along with their class teacher from St. Joseph's PU College, Karwar. The programme commenced with the rendition of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem (Jana Gana Mana), followed by the ICAR Song, creating a patriotic and inspiring atmosphere.

Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu, Scientist, welcomed the gathering and delivered the welcome address. He highlighted the history of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), its establishment, remarkable journey, and major achievements in strengthening Indian agriculture, fisheries, animal sciences, and allied sectors over the decades. His presentation emphasized ICAR's significant role in enhancing food and nutritional security, promoting scientific innovations, and supporting the farming and fishing communities across the country.

Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu, Scientist-in-Charge then invited Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Scientist, to deliver a lecture on the achievements and research activities of the Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI. Dr. Tanveer Hussain elaborated on the station's major accomplishments in marine fisheries research, mariculture, fish health management, technology development, and extension activities benefiting coastal communities. His informative lecture provided the students with valuable insights into the scientific contributions and ongoing research programmes undertaken at the regional station.

To further enhance the students' understanding of the institute, a documentary video showcasing the seven decades of ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi, was screened. The video highlighted the institute's pioneering research, technological innovations, and its immense contribution to the sustainable development of India's marine fisheries sector.

Following the technical sessions, the students visited the Mariculture Museum of the Karwar Regional Station. During the visit, various models and exhibits related to Open Sea Cage Farming, Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), and other mariculture technologies were demonstrated. Dr. Sonali M. and Dr. Praveen, Technical Officers, explained the various research and extension activities carried out by the Karwar Regional Station and interacted with the students, providing detailed information about the institute's facilities and technologies.

The Karwar Regional Station expressed its sincere gratitude to the Principal of St. Joseph's PU College, Karwar, for extending valuable support and encouraging the participation of students in the programme. The enthusiastic involvement of the students made the event highly interactive and successful.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu, Scientist, who thanked the Scientist-in-Charge, faculty members, staff, students, and all participants for their active support and cooperation in making the celebration a grand success.
