Visit of Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director, CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography to ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Karwar Regional Station

On 26th May 2026, the Director of CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, visited the Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI, Karwar. Upon his arrival at the main office, a detailed discussion was held regarding the ongoing research, developmental activities, and extension programmes being carried out at the station. During the interaction, Dr. Kalidas C, Scientist-in-Charge (SIC) and Principal Scientist, briefed the Director about the major activities, achievements, and research initiatives undertaken by the Karwar Regional Station in the field of mariculture & marine fisheries.

Subsequently, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh visited the Mariculture Museum and various laboratories of the station to observe the available research and diagnostic facilities. He showed keen interest in the infrastructure and scientific activities being conducted at the station. Thereafter, he visited the Marine Hatchery Complex, where he explored the seed production units and microalgae culture laboratories. Dr. Kalidas C, explained in detail the hatchery production activities, broodstock management practices, larval rearing techniques, and the role of live feed and microalgae culture in successful marine fish seed production. The Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) facilities were also demonstrated and explained during the visit.

Dr. Mahesh V and Dr. Kurva Raghu Ramudu, Scientists of the station, actively participated in the visit and explained the activities and research work related to their respective divisions. They highlighted the ongoing scientific interventions and technological advancements being implemented for sustainable mariculture and fisheries development. Dr. Sonali S.M. and Dr. Praveen also extended their support in facilitating and coordinating the Director’s visit smoothly and successfully. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the research infrastructure, mariculture technologies, and scientific achievements of the Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI.
