ICAR–CMFRI Observes Kisan Diwas

ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) observed Kisan Diwas (National Farmers’ Day) across its Headquarters in Kochi and various Regional Centres and Stations by organising farmer-centric programmes and awareness activities.

At the Kochi Headquarters, a farmers’ training programme was conducted with the participation of around 45 farmers, focusing on mariculture technologies, entrepreneurship development and innovative feeding practices. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Grinson George, Director, ICAR–CMFRI, followed by distribution of inputs under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP). Scientists and technical staff also participated in a panel discussion on the newly enacted Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, deliberating its implications for farmers, particularly those engaged in capture fisheries and allied sectors.

Kisan Diwas was also observed at ICAR-CMFRI’s Regional Centres and Stations at Mumbai, Tuticorin, Karwar, Mandapam, Visakhapatnam, Mangalore, Chennai, Vizhinjam, Digha and Calicut. The programmes included farmer–scientist interactions, workshops on sustainable and climate-smart mariculture, seaweed farming discussions, farmer felicitation and demonstrations of marine cage farming success stories. Several centres also joined the national-level online Kisan Diwas programme organised by ICAR.
