ICAR-CMFRI Observes International Yoga Day 2023

The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) observed the International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2023 by organising awareness workshops and demonstrations of yoga Asanas at its Headquarters in Kochi and various Regional Centres and Regional Stations. The celebrations focused on this year’s theme: ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ effectively encapsulating the collective aspiration for ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future’.

Dr K Vijayakumaran former Principal Scientist of ICAR-CMFRI and Smt. Smitha K guided the yoga demonstration in Kochi.

A lecture followed by a demonstration of yoga was organised at the Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI in Mandapam. During his awareness lecture, Shri. M. Vinoth Kumar, BE, M. Sc (Yoga) emphasised the significance of yoga in human life. Dr. G. Tamilmani, Senior Scientist & Head-in-Charge of the Centre briefed about the relevance of International Yoga Day. A total of 46 staff of Mandapam Regional Centre participated.  

 

The Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI held an awareness workshop focusing on the role of yoga for physical and mental health during the time of the pandemic. Smt. Vijayashanti, a yoga trainer from the Department of Yoga, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam trained the staff with different Asanas and Mudras. All the staff participated in the programme with enthusiasm and zeal.

Yoga master Shri. Pugal Kannan of the Art of Living Centre, Tuticorin was the invited guest at the Yoga Day celebration held at Tuticorin Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI. Stating that yoga provides mental and physical strength to people and enhances the well-being of human life, he suggested balanced food habits for improving health and relief from bodily illness. Later, he demonstrated different Asanas and Pranayama. All the staff members participated. Dr. P.S. Asha, Principal Scientist and Scientist-in-Charge of the Centre delivered the welcome address.

 

Vizhinjam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI celebrated International Yoga Day with an awareness lecture and yoga demonstration. Shri. Vincent Clement of Om Shivaya Yoga and Meditation Centre, Kovalam and his two associates—Shri. Kuroshia Nadeshan and Ms. Mini—were the Yoga instructors for the event. Dr. B. Santhosh, Dr. B. Santhosh, Head briefed about the importance of yoga in our life. In his lecture, Shri. Vincent introduced the concept of yoga, one of the priceless gifts of India's ancient heritage, which aims to promote the physical and mental well-being of a person. All staff and students practised yoga under his guidance.

Shri.  Ashok Manngudda, a yoga Guru was the guest of the Yoga Day celebration held at Mangalore Regional Centre. He delivered a talk on the importance of yoga in everyday life. This was followed by the practice session of yoga Asanas as per the protocol received from the Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India. The session concluded with SA?KALPA. All the scientists, technical staff, research scholars and contractual staff actively participated in the yoga session.

 

ICAR-CMFRI’s Regional Stations in Veraval, Karwar and Calicut also observed International Yoga Day by practising different yoga Asanas under the guidance of trained yoga instructors. The staff of the Mumbai Regional Station joined the International Yoga Day celebration organised by the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai.

A total of 6.8 million green tiger shrimp seeds (PL 35) were sea ranched at Mandapam, Koyilvadi (Palk Bay) on 7th September, 2023 under the Project entitled "Sea ranching of Green tiger shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus) Post Larvae (PL) in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu" funded by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India under the Central Sector Scheme component of the PMMSY. The shrimp seeds were released by Shri. M. Sivakumar, Assistant Director of Fisheries and Fisherman Welfare, Mandapam, Fishermen Association Leaders in the presence of Dr. K. Vinod, Head, Dr. G. Tamilmani, Principal Investigator of the project, Scientists and staff of Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI. The fishermen thanked the Government of India and ICAR-CMFRI for such an initiative and expressed that this activity will be helpful in replenishing and enhancing the green tiger shrimp stock in the wild. A total of 75.34 million green tiger shrimp seeds were sea ranched in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar since the inception of the Project (February, 2022). The sea ranching programme was coordinated by Dr. B. Johnson, Senior Scientist of the Centre.

A total of 1.6 million green tiger shrimp seeds (PL 20) were sea ranched at Maraikayarpattianam (Gulf of Mannar) on 23rd June, 2023 under the Project entitled "Sea ranching of Green tiger shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus) Post Larvae (PL) in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu" funded by Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India under the Central Sector Scheme component of the PMMSY. The shrimp seeds were released by the staff of Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI in the presence of Dr. G. Tamilmani, Head-in-Charge & Principal Investigator of the project. A total of 58.24 million green tiger shrimp seeds were sea ranched in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar since the initiation of the Project (February, 2022). The sea ranching programme was coordinated by Dr. B. Johnson, Senior Scientist of the Centre.
