About the Journal

The Marine Fisheries Information Service, Technical & Extension Series (MFIS) is a quarterly publication of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute disseminating latest research information on marine fisheries and mariculture in India. First published in 1978 primarily as a technical and extension series, it has grown over the years and is regularly published (ISSN 0254- 380X) on a quarterly basis with four issues every year. Research communications related to marine fisheries and ecosystems, marine fish nutrition, breeding, disease management, sea farming and fisheries governance are encouraged. All issues and individual articles since 1978 are available in public domain at ICAR-CMFRI’s Open Access Institute Repository eprints @cmfri.  No publication charges are applicable.

Editorial Policy

After the editorial team ascertains the suitability of the research communications for MFIS, an open peer-review process with at least any one expert reviewer will be completed. Authors are expected to be willing partners in this process. Editor and team takes all reasonable steps to ensure an ethical publication process. The anti-plagiarism check ithenticate, open peer review and periodic post-publication feedback from scientific peer community is used for this.  Responsibility for ensuring that research ethics are followed scrupulously, especially with regard to authorships, inclusion of copyright materials and content recycling, lies with the corresponding author. Also, in no case will the Editorial Team knowingly allow any research misconduct and all decisions in any such cases will be guided by COPE or equivalent guidelines.

 

Guidelines for authors

The Marine Fisheries Information Service, Technical & Extension Series (MFIS) is an avenue for rapid communication of research findings pertaining to the marine fisheries sector. It welcomes research based technical articles, reporting significant new information, knowledge and understanding of marine fisheries and ecosystems as well as new concepts/technologies in marine fish nutrition, hatchery and larval rearing, fish pathology, fish disease control and management, application of genetics in fish conservation and farming, sea farming technologies and fisheries governance. The themes in focus are

·        Fisheries & Management

·        Marine Biodiversity &Conservation

·        Fisheries Environment  

·        Socio- Economics 

·        Mariculture

·        Seafood Trade

·        Marine Biotechnology

 

Technical articles should be written in English and should communicate in a popular style, salient research findings and technologies of relevance to the marine fisheries sector. Articles will be selected for publication considering its current relevance, innovative ideas and scope for application of the new knowledge to the benefit of various stakeholders.

Preparation of Articles for MFIS

Contributions are invited under 4 Sections: Lead Papers (by invitation only), Research Communications, Brief Communications and Kaleido Scope.

Research Communications are limited to 12 A4 pages including figures/tables and a brief abstract. The articles can carry graphs &photographs. Upto 5 relevant references can be quoted in the text with complete reference provided at the end of the article. An abstract limited to 200 words should be provided along with 3-5 Key Words.

Brief Communications may be limited to 6 A4 pages, will include photos only and references not required /optional.

Kaleido Scope section will include any short communications of preliminary results of topical, scientific interest related to any of the above themes.

Title page of all communications should include authors’ full name (s), institute’s mailing addresses and the email address of the corresponding author. The title of the paper must be relevant and brief. General text must be typed in 12-point, Times New Roman font with 1.5 spacing. Headings within each section must be short and follow a logical sequence. Acronyms, abbreviations and technical terms should be written out in full the first time they are mentioned. Layout of the text should be simple without any elaborate formatting styles.

Tables should be kept to minimum, with a short heading and conform to the size and lay-out of the MFIS. Artwork files should be of high resolution in TIFF/JPEG (minimum 300dpi) or in MS-Excel format only and bearing appropriate captions. Embedded graphics in word processor files are not accepted.

References should be brief and complete with Author(s) name(s), year, Journal name, Volume, page number(s) to provide the reader enough information to trace the reference easily. It should be provided at the end of the text following the format given below.

Submission of article
