Thrust Areas of Research

Broodstock development, breeding and seed production of high value marine finfishes (cobia, silver pompano, Malabar red snapper), shellfishes (Portunus pelgicus) and ornamental fishes .
Investigations on climate resilient species for mariculture and development and transfer of technology on diversified farming methods such as sea cage farming, integrated farming and pen culture.
Development of database on capture fisheries and socio-economic aspects of the region to evolve management advisories.
Investigations on coral reef ecosystem of Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay and evolving appropriate interventions for biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihood
