Molluscan Fisheries

Activities

  • Assessment of fisheries (gear-wise catch-effort, species composition) of molluscs all along the Indian coast.
  • Conduct studies on the biology of major commercial molluscan resources ( squids, cuttlefishes, octopus, bivalves and gastropods)
  • Monitoring and assessing the molluscan fisheries resources of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and to understand the stock and its dynamics in relation to environment and human interventions

  • Developing and commercializing hatchery and production system technologies for molluscs.

  • Developing fisheries management plans for the  maritime state of Andhra Pradesh  for sustaining and enhancing the resources

  • Building trophic models and fisheries management simulations for the Indian Seas: Northwest coast and Gulf of Mannar

  • Developing value chain approach for high value bivalves and cephalopods.

  • Conduct training and front-line demonstration for dissemination of knowledge and technologies.
